We started this morning walking around Queenstown and its gardens. They seem to have a thing about fantastic rainbows here. It seemed that every other shop was dedicated to extreme sports or outfitting for it. They have a sport here that makes Bungy Jumping seem tame. It’s called The Canyon Swing. Unlike bungy jumping which immediately decelerates after the first stretch, this cord accelerates you and swings you out over a canyon. One outfit’s storefront sold T-Shirts that read “Even my shit was scared!”
We had a great lunch in town and then did a much milder ride on the TSS Earnslaw, which is a coal powered cruiser from the turn of the century, to the other end of the lake. The wind on the lake was howling at about 40 knots, but the ride was smooth. There we went to the Walter Peak Sheep Ranch and cuddled an 18 hour old sheep, watched sheep herding and shearing, and of course had the obligatory afternoon tea (how civilized)! Cocktails back in the room watching the sun go down behind the mountains and then off to dinner soon.
Hi there!! I’m back from a 7 day delivery of a 49′ Grand Banks to South Carolina. Plenty of water left in the ocean.
Queenstown seems to be the “jumping off of something” capital of the world. BTW when we were there, the “Incredibles”(name of mountains around Qtown were the setting for the filming of Lord of the Rings. What a sound stage.
