Cheryl & Elwin's Adventures

Did you really think that Cheryl would Bungy Jump? But we did say goodbye to Auckland and New Zealand in the best way we know how. We went for a sail on the harbor in a ketch rigged Scow. There was a great wind as we sailed under the harbor bridge with all 5 sails up and the sun shining on our big smiles. We toured the NZ Maritime Museum which had a large portion dedicated to The Americas Cup and other NZ sailing endeavors, including a great tribute to Sir Peter Blake, the Kiwi who won NZs first Americas Cup trophy along with other great firsts like the Whitbred Round the World Race.
The museum also traced the maritime roots of NZ from Polynesia and had some replicas of original Polynesian longboats that they have actually used to travel over 1000 miles in the Pacific to prove their theories of migration.
After that it was one last lunch with Alan and Lois at the harbor including a Martinsborough Pinot Noir, and now we are at the airport awaiting our flight to Sydney and then home.
The trip was incredible and we are still trying to absorb it all. It seems like ages ago that we were in Port Douglas, AU where it all began. BTW when I get home I should be able to download the scuba pictures so one more post coming.
We have fond memories of great places and wonderful people. It was a trip of a lifetime and although we miss home and friends and family we could have stayed and explored much, much, longer.
