On our way we stopped at a fascinating Step Well, The Abhaneri, created in the ninth century to collect water for the Raja and his subjects. It is 13 stories deep. It was lined with numerous temples of which many were destroyed by the invading Mughal Warriors. Agra is a huge, poor city with little development and numerous people, cows, donkeys, water buffalo, boars, and Tuk-Tuks on the streets at all hours. In Agra we visited The Itmad-Ud-Daulah, also known as “the little Taj.” It was built by the grandfather of the Raja who created the Taj Mahal, as a tomb for his wife and himself. It is made completely out of marble with elaborate stone inlay. Heading to The Taj Mahal for sunrise tomorrow.
