If you haven’t already guessed, we are home now. So much for government controlled spotty internet and WiFi. We arrived in Havana and were met by our private guide Jesus Noguera Ravelo and taken to our luxurious B&B Hostal RelaxHavana. After a quick change it was off to downtown for an overview and lunch at the Hotel Nacional. We drove along the Malecon and saw the old bunkers from the 1961 missile crisis, many abandoned and decaying homes, and beautiful homes and edifices as well. Lunch was delicious. Then off to the Plaza de Revolucion and the Towering sculpture honoring Jose’ Marti. Lots of classic 1950’s American cars as when the 1959 revolution was won, import of all foreign cars and many other goods stopped. Therefore the time warp. Even used cars are now extremely expensive so the old beauties have been maintained and updated. Many function as taxis. Lots of reminders of Che’ Guevara and Fidel Castro all around town. It was then off to the east side of town on the other side of the harbor passing El Moro Fort and winding up in the Casa Blanca area for an overlook of the city and to savor the sunset . A delicious Cuban dinner at Restaurante St. Christobal where president Obama dined last year.
