After lunch we began our afternoon at Callejon de Hamal, a vibrant open air museum created by the Afro- Cuban community. Many practice a religion called Santaria, which is mostly African in nature with a bit of Roman Catholicism thrown in. That’s me in the “good luck” chair. After that we visited the 4 plazas of the old town by foot. Plaza Cathedral, Plaza des Armas, Plaza de San Francisco de Assisi, and Plaza Viejo (forgive my spelling). Strolling around we visited several artist’s studios and cooperatives where Barry and Joan bought their first piece of art from Darien Fernandez. As well we made a stop at the Museum of the Revolution, a tribute to the leaders of the revolution of 1959 and the Cuban people. As well there was “homage” to Battista, Ronald Regan and the Bush presidencies. One very full day!
