This morning we awoke to more certainty about hurricane Irene setting her sites on New England. The four of us decided that the prudent thing to do was to get home and make preparations. We opted to skip the ports of New Bedford and Block Island and to make the 56 mile run from Cuttyhunk to New London. A sad decision but a wise one. The weather was spectacular today and it was one of the best sails of the trip.
So now 6 1/2 weeks later and with more than 720 miles under our belts our adventure has come to an end. We saw spectacular sights, met wonderful people, observed Maine as few people get to do, laughed, ate too much lobster, communed with nature up close and personal, and learned a lot about our vessels, our friends, and about ourselves. We truly enjoyed our time with Ken and Sue, wonderful sailing companions and wonderful friends. The weather could not have been better (we had less than 30 minutes of sailing in fog) and we never had any of those summer heat waves.
So as we sail off into the mist, we hope that we all journey safely through this next storm, and we thank all of you for sharing in our journey and hope that you enjoyed reading about it as much as we did recounting it.
