This morning we said goodbye to the tropical rain forest and winged our way to the Outback and Uluru. For those not fluent in Aboriginal you may know it as Ayers Rock.
This is definitely the desert. It’s only early spring and the temperature today was over 105°F. You don’t want to do much mid day. We hung around the pool, swam some laps and then relaxed. Eventually the heat chased us inside until our sunset tour of the rock.
The sunset ceremony is very civilized. They provide champagne, white or red wine, soft drinks, crudités and a cheese platter. The views were spectacular as you can see. Note how the character of the rock changes as the sun goes down.
Tomorrow it’s up early again the watch sunrise from the other side of the rock, then some exploring at the base and the cultural center. For now it’s off to bed.
I see that you did not have a fly problem at the rock. We had special hats that contained a net that covered your head/face area. They did not bite as their only interest was in your exhalation and other body moisture. It’s a little shy on water out there.
