After rising early we did a quick walk around downtown Melbourne and some of the parks by the river. Then we were off to the great Ocean Road, described as the most beautiful highway in all of Australia. It was almost a 500 kilometer drive to our next destination, Mt. Gambier but the drive and the sites were thrilling.
The drive winds along the south coast, up through the coastal mountain into rain forrest and back down again to the coast. The highlight were the 12 Apostles, rock formations along the coast with the waves crashing around them. After the ocean drive the last 200 kilometers or so were through verdant farm country. Lots of sheep and cows (like we won’t get our fill in New Zealand)! A very tasty Thai meal in Mt. Gambier and now off to bed.

Every time I see the pre-WWll train station, I think of all the young men (now old or gone) who used that station for transportation or as a meeting place from which to explore Melbourne before they launched off to the north, under MacArthur. One can almost see them meeting young Australian girls or buddies from their various outfits.
Oh well enough of that/// What a contrast with the ultra modern building near-by. I don’t remember what its function is.
