We arrived in Lisbon early this morning and after freshening up we hit the town. We started by the river at The Praca Comercio and then walked up and down the Baixa (Portugese for old town). We went up to the Praca Rosio where we came upon a memorial to the original holocost. That is to say the Inquisition of the 1500s. Then over to the Elevador de Santa Justa, constructed by a disciple of Gustave Eiffel from France. Back down some small alleyways dodging the trolley cars to lunch on the Tagus River. After lunch we met up with our friends Barry & Joan and Alan & Lois and did a walking tour the Bairro Alto, the oldest part of town and located on one of Lisbon’s many hills. We past many homes with tiled facades. Our guide, Dias, was most entertaining and an excellent historian. Off to a local seafood restaurant for a Portugese fish dinner soon.
