We left Lisbon in the afternoon for Cascais, (pronounced Cascaish) which is west of Lisbon where the Tagus River meets the Atlantic Ocean. It is definitely a beach resort with the old world charm of a fishing village. Our hotel was actually built inside the original citadel. An unexpected treat was the 3 day Lumina Festival which lights up walls and other structures in 20 places around the town with high tech computer generated lights and lasers. It was fantastic, and the best show was on the 4 walls inside the huge courtyard of our hotel.
