After a sumptuous breakfast of tropical fruits, nectars, huevos, sandwiches, meats, and coffee it was off to a family run pottery factory. It has been in the family for generations, and the techniques have changed little. The work was beautiful. Then off to Casa del Joven Creador, an artists cooperative for music, sculpture, and painting. We were lucky enough to catch a concert by two groups and then meet with some artists, Jorge Cesar Sa’enz, Atner Cadalso, and Carlos Roman. Some of the artists use their food ration cards for painting and collage. Every Cuban family is issued these cards monthly to obtain staples. We also visited the studio of Yasiel Elizagaray. We really enjoyed his work. We then walked back to the Plaza Major to explore an old colonial mansion. After that lunch in a restaurant frequented by the locals and not tourists. Finally a quick siesta before a full afternoon and evening.
