After a great lunch with local musicians playing Cheryl and I began our hike to the Sun Gate. It is a path rising about 1000 vertical feet above Machu Picchu for a length of over several kilometers. We met a wonderful couple from Brisbane, Australia, Sheryl and Morris Blanchard and we encouraged each other all of the way. There were numerous Alpaca, sometimes blocking the path and refusing to move. On the way we passed a large Oblong granite stone over 60′ tall that looked like the front had been carved or at least quarried. We immediately held a quick ceremony and named it and the ruins in front of it Cheryl (or Sheryl) Picchu. We all trekked on in the heat until finally reaching the Sun Gate. It was a great celebration. Heading down we stopped for one last overview of this spectacular site as the sun cast its shadow from the west, before heading back down to Aguas Calientes to toast our day with Sheryl and Moe, and Pisco Sours.

Looks beautiful! I love how mom is clearly holding on at some places…
Your pictures are so well done. They are set and chosen wonderfully well.
I believe this trip, in certain ways, is the best of all.
