Our walking tour of Zagreb began by a walk through several parks right outside our hotel. We arrived at Jelacica Square which is the main hub of the old town and also the heart of upscale shopping. From there we were a stone’s throw from the main Cathedral, built in the 1500s and now undergoing a major restoration. One block away is the outdoor market which had just about anything you could want, especially in produce. We picked up lunch there in a superb bakery. We then continued on past the funicular (I think rated the world’s shortest) to the Opera House and the main art museum. As you can tell by the signage Zagreb has probably the largest number of art museums per capita in the world, including a Museum of Broken Relationships. Finally our last stroll was to the train station, past more parks and the Museum of Modern Art. All aboard for our ride to Ljubljana, Slovenia.
