Old Ljubljana is a pedestrian only city and is great fun to walk around. We began our tour of the old town at the Cobbler’s Bridge, crossing over the Ljubljanica River to the University and Academic area of town. Much of the architecture here was done by a local favorite Joze Plecnik. From here we continued on to Congress Square and park. The central area for large events and even skiing in winter. Then on to Preseren Square, which seems to be the main gathering and meeting place. Named after Slovenia’s greatest poet, we were regaled with many stories of his unrequited love. Then crossing back over the triple bridges to Town Hall and the the Central Market and Colonnade. Friday is Open Food day where local restaurants set up kiosks to sell some of the favorite dishes. A hearty outdoor lunch was had by all. One last stop at the Dragon Bridge before a quick break to regroup for afternoon activities.
