Exploring Lake Bled and Vintgar Gorge

Leaving Ljubljana and heading north to near the Austrian border we arrived at Lake Bled, one of the most scenic and serene places on earth. We hired a Pletna Boat (old traditional boat made from wood and with no keel) to row us out to “The Island.” On the island is The Church of the Assumption where you can ring the “wishing bell” and also explore the small Island. Alan and Lois listened to an impromptu concert from a singing group from Austria while we explored. Then we partially drove and partially hiked up to Bled Castle for wonderful views of the lake and environs. We also took in some medieval history of the area. Then it was on to Vintgar gorge to work off a delicious lunch. The hike was very scenic and not too challenging. Back to Ljubljana for dinner with Franc and his delightful daughter Ema.
