Postojna caves are the number one tourist attraction in Slovenia and it is easy to see why. You ride a rail train two miles into the ground to the most spectacular grotto in the world. We walked for over a mile through narrow passages into huge cavernous spaces with the most amazing stalagtites and stalagmites. This has far surpassed any caves that we have seen in our travels both in the USA and abroad. After that it was back to Croatia with our first stop in the hilltop town of Groznjan dating back to the 11th century. First populated by Italians it fell into disrepair upon their leaving, but it has found a new life as an artist colony. Then it was on to the coastal town of Porec to view some Roman structures and ruins from the time of the birth of Christ. The first was the Decumanus – the main road through the town that was 10 men wide, and still contains the original stones and drainage system in excellent shape. The other major site was the Roman tiles found in the Eiphrasian Basilica. After a full day we arrived in Ravinj, our home for the next 2 days.
