This morning after a great breakfast of Maine blueberry pancakes made from scratch by Ken, we set out on Enchante’ for Eagle Island, about two miles from our anchorage at Jewell. Eagle Island was the home of Admiral Robert Peary, the first man to the reach the north pole. His house and island is now a Maine state park and has been restored to how it was when Peary lived there. It was quite interesting and yes that is a view of Enchante’ that Peary had out of his oval window in his office.
We returned to Jewell to find out that a giant Leatherback turtle that recently died had washed up on the beach on the eastern side of the island. It was huge and sad to see although the island caretaker felt that it died of old age, probably about 100 years. The rock formations on this island were also quite interesting and different than any other place we have been in Maine. Again a beautiful sunset and dinner on board.
Off to Portland tomorrow, our last port in Maine 🙁
