We spent today in Portland as the nor’Easter was winding down offshore and there were big seas on the ocean. Visited other parts of this town that we found intriguing. First was the Portland Observatory which is a tall tower used to signal Ships coming in from sea before the invention of radio or telegraph. There were many built in this country but this is the only one left standing. Then lobster sandwiches onboard (leftovers) and on to The Wordsworth-Longfellow house where Henry grew up. Great tour and fun tourguide.
Cocktails on Enchante’ and then our farewell dinner to Maine on Munjoy Hill at The Front Room Restaurant (Thanks Peter). One last walk along the shore back to our boat and we’ll be off to New Hampshire on the early tide tomorrow.
The view from the tower is the Casco Bay islands (hazy), and Cheryl and I are standing on the locomotive of the Portland Narrow Gauge Railway.
