Sydney is about 6 kilometers inland from the ocean inlet on a very large harbor. There are many small and large towns to explore by harbor ferry and that is what we did today. Leaving form a dock right near our hotel we glided under the Sydney bridge, past the Opera House and into Circular Quay downtown.
We were then off to Tongaroa where the zoo is, and out to Watsons Bay and Manley, which is on the ocean. It was a relaxing and fun day. We passed the homes of Russell Crowe, Nichole Kidman, (the red roofed one on the beach) and Greg Norman, as well as the mansion for the PM. Also fantastic beaches and nature walks. Manley reminded us of Long Beach, NY, but with clear Azure waters and many protected coves for kayaking,snorkeling and paddle boarding.
Lunch was at Doyle’s in Watsons Bay which is the place to go since the late 1800’s. Yes, you can climb to the top of Sydney Harbor Bridge for somewhere between $200 and $300 and it seems to be a sellout. I chose to save my money. The tall ship is areplica of Captain James cook’s ship, The Endeavour. Off to dinner in a bit while you guys are just waking up.
