We left our mooring at City Island with the intent of making passage to Black Rock Harbor and visiting with our friends Ted and Judy Andre. The day was sunny and warm and the breezes out of the south. With sails up and the motor running in a fair tide we were making over 8 knots for most of the way. With bad weather coming in for several days we changed plans and decided to head all the way home. A distance of about 90 nautical miles. Less than 12 hours later we were safe back at Ferry Slip in New London. Not much scenery, other than light houses, but it was a smooth passage. The best one however was seeing our own New London Harbor light next to our home as the sun was setting.
We saw wonderful sites in the Chesapeake and met many, many wonderful people who we are now happy to call friends. We learned that cruising in the “shoulder” seasons can be frought with questionable weather. Over half of our days this spring had rain for at least part of the day. We are glad we made this trip, and also glad to be home. Until next time – fair winds, and calm seas to all.
