Searching For the Sun….Finding Taos

Early in the morning several of us decided to hike up Sun Mountain in Santa Fe as the sun was rising. It was an exhilarating hike with great views of the valley from the summit. We then proceeded up to Taos via the ” high” road. Beautiful vistas and lots of hairpin turns on our way up through the mountains. Before reaching town we stopped at Rancho de Taos  to visit the St. Francis de Asis Cathedral. This church was made famous by and can be seen in many of Georgia O’Keefe’ paintings. It was then on to The Taos Pueblo, an active living Pueblo that is also on the UNESCO list of world heritage sites. In addition to the multilevel dwellings with their outdoor ovens, and the beautiful new cathedral we toured archaeological sites and the old cemetery and cathedral ruins. One last stop before our dinner feast (more about that later) was to the Rio Grande Gorge bridge north of town.
