Cienfuegos is a city on the south side of the island which has an excellent deep water port. It used to be a center for the slave trade and sugar exportation. As such it has a large theater, Theatro Terry from the 1800’s where world famous stars and opera singers would come to perform. It is presently undergoing a “slow” renovation. We had an excellent lunch at “Ache”. The town square is historic and very pretty, especially the Cathedral and the Palacio del Valle. There is also a lot of industry on the outskirts of town that we noticed on our drive out on the way to Trinidad. We arrived in time for dinner at a “hip” restaurant La Reduccion, but more importantly in plenty of time to head to the famous outdoor Casa de la Musica for dancing to Cuban rhythms.
