After our morning exploring Rovinj we drove about an hour south to the town of Pula where one of the best Roman arenas is preserved along with the Gate of Hercules and the Arch of Sergius as acceas points into the old Roman City The Temple of Augustus was almost completely intact as was a mosaic Roman floor of a house. The modern town in a flourishing ship building town with traces of Venetian Architecture as this church tower which resembles the St. Mark’s Square tower. It was also a favorite haunt of James Joyce as Lois discovered.
