Today we hired a private guide to drive us into the great Dividing Range and old growth rain forest. Bill is a naturalist with a great knowledge of the flora and fauna of Australia and he took us into private areas that tourists normally can’t access in both the rain forests and in the Savannah on the other side of the coastal mountains. We spent a fascinating 5 hours with him finding all sorts of wild life and even wilder plant life in the rain forest. He pointed out plants that with a mere touch can incapacitate you for life (it looks innocent enough in the picture), as well as medicinal plants. We went to an upland Savannah where we saw wild horses and numerous bird species including the Black Swan. This is the only place on the earth where the Black Swan exist. We also saw two different species of kangaroo in the wild. The Fair Faced Wallaby and the Red footed Pademelon, which is the smallest of all kangaroos. Tried to find Platypus and Casawarra but with no luck.
After returning, a late lunch beside the water and then some down time on the beach. Note the crowds! The water was deliciously warm and clear, and no “stingers” to be seen.
My eyes are getting green with jealousy!!! Not good!!!
