Tonight for dinner we went to a local family descended from the Feudal Warrior class of Hindu. This is the second class of Hindu below the Brahman. The house has 8 apartments for the grandfather, his sons, and their sons who live there with their families. When the girls marry they move out of the house and into their husband’s family home.
The family was very gracious in explaining their lifestyle and beliefs. Marriages are arranged, cash dowries are paid by the bride’s family, women work and then come home to prepare meals for their husbands. They are very happy with this arrangement.
The meal was delicious and our hosts could not have been lovelier.
