If you want to get a little crazy head to Pokhara. They are certainly attempting to rival Queenstown, NZ for extreme sports. In addition to being probably the trekking capital of the world, with every other shop selling trekking clothing and gear (probably all knock offs from China or elsewhere) they offer the mundane stuff like bungee jumping, river rafting, sliding down waterfalls, spelunking, zip lines, and ultralight aircraft to name but a few diversions. But they take Parasailing to new heights (pun intended). Literally hundreds of Parasails launch almost simultaneously and fly perilously close to each other. If that weren’t enough, there is one company that has trained Egyptian Vultures to soar with them and actually land on the guest’s arm while in flight. The raptor then follows the Parasail down for his reward upon landing. Always a new gimmick! All of these Parasails landed next to the lake right in front of our hotel.
We opted for smoother sailing and took a boat ride on Lake Phewa to an island with a very active Hindu Temple. Many people in Nepal come to Pokhara to relax and also pay homage at this temple. We then walked through town and quickly realized that we brought up the average age of the non locals by many years. The Annapurna Range of the Himalayas is just kilometers away and many take off for one to three week treks into the mountains. Great meals for both lunch and dinner.
Tomorrow is our last day in Pokhara and then we will be winging our way home tomorrow evening.
